PoCo Bike the Dike | Self-guided Tour
This summer, bike the PoCo dike, learn about the natural and built environment!
Watershed Watch Salmon Society is hosting a self-guided bike tour.
From B.C. Day weekend to Labour Day (August 1 - Sept 7), explore the easy-to-ride and scenic Port Coquitlam dike with family and friends! We've created a handy map with a number of points of interest so you can learn about the area as you bike the dike. It's a great way to experience nature and you might be surprised at what you see along the way.
We’re grateful for the support of several local businesses! A big thank you to:
- C Market Coffee, who is generously offering Bike the Dike participants 10% off all drinks at their location for the duration of the event. When you arrive, show your digital coupon code (sent to you upon registration) to receive the discount.
- Tinhouse Brewing, who is generously offering $1 off beverages to Bike the Dike Participants
Here's how to join the fun:
1. Register for the event on Eventbrite so we can email you the Self-Guided Tour Map and any safety updates. We're just finishing up the route map and will email them to all registered attendees by July 30.
2. Invite family and friends to join. Bike the Dike is a great shared outing.
3. Familiarize yourself with the bike route map and plan your adventure. Be sure to be bike safe and make sure to pack out anything you pack in and leave no trace.
4. Don’t forget to stop by supporting businesses!
This tour will take place on unceded Kwikwetlem and Katzie territory. Over the past many years Watershed Watch has built a relationship of respect and shared values for this region with representatives and staff of these Nations as we work to restore and reconnect local waterways impacted by flood control structures.
Safety Tips and Trail Etiquette for People Riding Bikes
- Wear your helmet.
- Stay to the right so others can pass safely.
- When passing, use your bell or your voice to politely warn you're passing "on your left!!", and thank people for moving to the side.
- Yield to pedestrians and horses.
- Give other users ample space.
- Slow down when approaching pedestrians, horses and dogs. Children, horses, dogs and even adults can be unpredictable, so be prepared.
- If you stop, move to the side.
- Pack out what you pack in.
- Be bear aware. Travel in groups and make noise as you ride. If you see a bear do not approach or run. Back away slowly.
