FIVER with the Fiver Trois & ASHLEY SHADOW!
FIVER WITH THE FIVER TROIS
Fiver is the musical alias of songwriter, vocalist, researcher, and guitarist Simone Schmidt. Schmidt has been innovating in the Country and Folk music traditions with humour and gravity for nearly two decades. Their lyrics refuse sloganeering but remain political, deploying wit and poetry to detangle the knot of our human condition under late-stage capitalism. Their collaborators range a wide musical spectrum, from Old Time musicians Lonesome Ace String Band (Audible Songs From Rockwood, 2017) to free music improvisers in Fiver with the Atlantic School of Spontaneous Composition (named best music of 2021 by the Guardian UK), to punks Fucked Up, and electronic music producer ADO (Splitter). Despite evading the logic of the commercial music industry, their presence is felt. Their songs are covered widely, most notably by U.S. Girls and Stripmall Ballads. Most recently, their collaboration with Destroyer, the song Bologna, was named one of the Top 100 songs of 2025 by Pitchfork. Owing to their musical versatility, Schmidt’s been called “a Canadian PJ Harvey” by the “Canadian Rolling Stone” (Exclaim!). Their recordings are critically acclaimed for their warmth and rigour, and have garnered four Polaris Prize nominations. Previously, Schmidt fronted country act One Hundred Dollars and psych unit The Highest Order.
They have toured widely across North America and in Europe, on DIY circuits and festival stages alike. Lately, Schmidt performs live solo and with the Fiver Trois, featuring Jeremy Costello (bass) and Nathan Doucet (drums), and Liam Tyner (lap steel). If pressed for a musical style, the Fiver Trois fit most neatly under the label Country Prog. They rearrange the music around the strength of the songs with dynamic energy and palpable affection. The live act integrates tight songs with sprawling improvisational passages - there’s no stepping twice into the same show. Fiver’s upcoming full-length “Cleaning House” was just released on You’ve Changed Records in July 2026.

ASHLEY SHADOW
Ashley Shadow crafts songs that feel like quiet revelations—slow-burning, beautifully haunted indie folk that lingers long after the last note fades. A longtime presence in Vancouver’s music community, she’s known for her ability to make restraint sound radical, weaving dusky melodies with a voice that carries both tenderness and resolve. Her work has drawn the admiration of Will Oldham, who appears on her recordings and whose Bonnie “Prince” Billy project shares her affinity for stark emotional honesty and the power of a single, well‑placed phrase. Together, their collaborations highlight Shadow’s gift for creating intimate worlds where vulnerability becomes its own kind of strength, marking her as one of Canada’s most compelling and quietly influential songwriters. Ashley Webber is Ashley Shadow, formerly of The Organ and Pink Mountaintops, also the twin sister of Black Mountain and Lightning Dust's Amber Webber.
