Présentation du commissaire : Recadrer le paysage américain

Rejoignez-nous le jeudi 1 octobre à l’occasion du vernissage de Recadrer le paysage américain. L’exposition revisite une série de documentaires produits par le ministère américain de l’Intérieur dans les années 1950 ayant contribué à construire, renforcer et diffuser à l’échelle mondiale une image mythique de la culture américaine. Dans le cadre de ce projet, une sélection de ces films aujourd’hui en voie de désintégration, ainsi que les infrastructures et l’imaginaire environnemental qu’ils dépeignent, sont remédiés et recontextualisés afin de générer de nouvelles significations politiques et de nouveaux publics au sein du paysage américain.

L’exposition ouvre à partir de 17h. À 18h, dans le Théâtre Paul-Desmarais, Andy Lu Lee, commissaire de l’exposition, introduira le projet ainsi que sa démarche curatoriale.

L’entrée est gratuite et aucune inscription n’est requise pour accéder à l’exposition et à la célébration dans la maison Shaughnessy. Toutefois, le nombre de places étant limité dans le théâtre, il est recommandé de s’inscrire à la conférence.

Join us on Thursday 1 October for the opening of American Remediation. The exhibition revisits a series of documentaries produced by the U.S. Department of the Interior in the 1950s and their role in constructing, reinforcing, and circulating a mythical image of U.S. American culture on a global scale. Through this project, a selection of the now-disintegrating films depicting an environmental imaginary of the modern landscape and its infrastructures are re-mediated and re-contextualized to generate new political meanings and new publics within the American landscape.

The exhibition opens at 5pm. At 6pm in the Paul-Desmarais Theatre, the curator of the exhibition, Andy Lu Lee, will introduce the project as well as his curatorial approach.

Entrance is free and registration to access the exhibition and celebration in the Shaughnessy House is not required. However, as space is limited in the theatre, registration is recommended for the opening talk.

The event will be held in English.
