Plugs for the Prairie
Overview

Help care for rare prairie habitat on the Rice Lake Plains.

Historically, the Rice Lake Plains were covered with tall grass prairie and oak savanna ecosystems, which were dominated by massive black and white oak trees. Grasses like big bluestem and switchgrass thrived, and a diverse range of wildflowers blossomed. Help give this globally rare habitat a comeback by planting native prairie species plugs on our Hazel Bird Nature Reserve. After planting, join us on a guided walk to learn more about the Rice Lake Plains. Physical activity includes walking three to five kilometres over uneven terrain, as well as bending, digging and twisting.
