Book Launch: Rachel Phan's "That Asian Girl is a Problem"
Celebrate the launch of bestselling author and Laurier alumna Rachel Phan’s new book, "That Asian Girl is a Problem."
Celebrate the launch of Rachel Phan’s new book, That Asian Girl is a Problem, a ferociously smart, darkly funny essay collection that dismantles the stereotypes, sexualization, obedience narratives, and “model minority” myths imposed on Asian diasporic women. Rachel Phan is the bestselling author of Restaurant Kid: A Memoir of Family and Belonging, which was named a Best Book of 2025 by CBC and longlisted for Canada Reads in 2026. She graduated from Laurier’s Journalism Program in 2011 and was named Laurier’s Alumna of the Year in 2026.
The event, sponsored by the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association, will include a reading by Rachel Phan, a conversation with Prof. Bruce Gillespie, a Q&A with the audience, a book signing, and a free reception with light refreshments.
