Home Routes - When We Became Folk Fest | Film w/Debra Lyn Neufeld
Explore the early days of the Winnipeg Folk Festival through film, conversation and live music with Debra Lyn Neufeld.
Film Screening, Conversation + Live Music
We’re kicking off the season with something a little different!
Winnipeg filmmaker Kevin Nikkel joins us for a screening of his feature documentary When We Became Folk Fest, exploring the first two years of the Winnipeg Folk Festival through archival footage filmed in 1974 and 1975.
The film captures the early days of what would become an important part of Winnipeg’s cultural landscape, including Home Routes co-founder Mitch Podolak at the beginning of his career as a presenter and festival director.
Following the screening, Kevin will stick around for a conversation and Q&A about the footage, the beginnings of the festival and the community that formed around it.
And it wouldn’t be a Home Routes evening without some live music! Winnipeg blues singer and musician Debra Lyn Neufeld will also join us for a short live set.
