Von Bieker

Von Bieker plays indie-folk that haunts your heart with small stories, big questions and vintage Bowties.

His thoughtful lyrics, emotional performances and sharp wit have gathered a fanbase seeking connection. From capacity crowds with his Small-Tones band to solo performances at some of Alberta’s largest folk clubs and Montreal’s smallest hotel rooms (at Folk Alliance International), Von Bieker is leaving a lasting impression.

His recent album "DUMB HOPE" landed at #45 on CKUA radio’s Top 100 Albums of 2024 and was also selected by the Edmonton Journal as one of “The 10 Must-Listen Albums From Edmonton Artists in 2024.” The album also reached #6 on the national !Earshot Folk/Roots/Blues chart, with the title track passing 10,000 Spotify streams in its first two weeks.

He's received radio airplay across Canada, including CBC and CKUA, and has been featured in several publications including Bandcamp Daily, The Edmonton Journal, Adobe and Teardrops and Canadian Beats.

Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Von Bieker draws draws from a powerhouse of influences, from the guitar-driven groove of Bahamas to the spiritual depth of Bruce Cockburn—from the breaking-point passion of Glen Hansard to the quirky joy of the Talking Heads. He performs regularly in solo, duo, trio (with saxophone) and full band configurations.

Spotlight Songwriters

The opening set will be an in-the-round hosted by Von Bieker with spotlight songwriters Kearstin Pfeifer and Joshua Beebe.

Kearstin Pfeifer is a Calgary based singer songwriter who captivates crowds with her outstanding vocals and intricately crafted songs. Kearstin often utilizes the art of storytelling through her performances and draws much of her inspiration from creation. Kearstin’s lyrical style is a combination of sentimental musings and wit

Joshua Beebe is an Indigenous singer-songwriter from rural Southern Alberta whose songs explore grief, healing, fatherhood, resilience, and the shared experiences that connect us all. Drawing inspiration from storytellers like John Prine and Leonard Cohen, while carrying the honesty and emotional depth of artists such as Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G., Joshua writes songs that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.

A winner of the 2019 South Country Fair Songwriting Competition and an Elite Eight finalist in the YYC Songwriter Showdown at Calgary’s National Music Centre, Joshua has been steadily building audiences across Alberta through heartfelt performances and authentic storytelling. Whether performing solo or alongside Joshua Beebe & The Forest Orchestra, his goal remains the same: to create music for the broken, the healing, and everyone in between.
