About the Mark Humphries Orchestra
Originally from Yorkshire, England, Mark Humphries comes from a family where music and entertainment run deep. His father, Dick Van Winkle, toured the world as a multi-instrumental comedic entertainer.
Mark's own musical journey began at the age of 13 when his trumpet teacher invited him to sit in with a local swing band called Sounds 40. That early experience eventually led to performances with the UK's premier big band, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.
The original Mark Humphries Orchestra was formed in 1987 and toured throughout the United Kingdom until Mark and his wife, Jill, emigrated with their family to Western Manitoba in 2008.
After settling in Manitoba, Mark returned to performing with the Brandon-based Scotty McIntosh Big Band. Following McIntosh's retirement, Mark took over as leader and reinvented the ensemble, bringing together talented musicians from Brandon University, Winnipeg, Shilo, Melita, Swan River and Saskatchewan.
Today, Humphries proudly carries on the family tradition of combining music and comedy, bringing audiences the Canadian version of the Mark Humphries Orchestra.
