PeerNetBC's 2025/26 Annual General Meeting and Get Together!

Helping people make connections is our passion. People who have strong connections to others have improved health, and communities where people are connected are healthier places to live. We provide training, information and resources for strengthening peer support groups and peer-led initiatives throughout British Columbia. We work with many diverse groups and communities including First Nations, rural, urban, multicultural, youth and online. PeerNetBC is a non-profit, registered charitable organization.Our work takes place on the unceded homelands of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.

<h2>About the PeerNetBC Annual General Meeting!</h2> Join us for a night of community, appreciation, engagement, and celebration at PeerNetBC’s Annual General Meeting for the 2025/2026 year.PeerNetBC is changing! Like a caterpillar, we feel like we are on the cusp of transformation and growth. This past year brought forward staff changes and strategy changes. We’re asking questions like: how can we fundraise? How can we continually sustain ourselves in an ever-changing funding landscape, while still being true to PeerNetBC? We’d like to share our ideas with our community, and maybe even get your ideas too!We will also be going over our Annual Report featuring reflections from our partners. In addition, we will go over official AGM business, including any elections for our Board of Directors.

Land AcknowledgementWe continue to witness genocide, starvation and displacements of many peoples, including those in Congo, Palestine and Sudan. Simultaneously, we see the on-going violent occupation of Indigenous territories across so-called “BC” (current example Federal and Provincial government introducing Bill C-5 and Bill 15 that will allowing colonial powers to further expedite projects by-passing Indigenous People’s rights )Wildfires across the province also expose and deepen existing inequities. We stand in solidarity with those facing fire, evacuation, and displacement, including Indigenous communities and migrant workers who face additional barriers to accessing emergency information, supports, and resources.In this context, we begin our annual reflection by acknowledging that Territory Acknowledgements are important but insufficient, always at the risk of becoming a tokenized and empty practice. We continue to reassess our role and work as a non-Indigenous organization on stolen lands. We acknowledge our privilege as a registered non-profit charity and strive to work in ever-better solidarity with the communities around us. This aligns with our mandate to continue building connections, learning in relation, and working together.We remain grateful to our Black and Indigenous project partners, consultants, and program participants who we are honoured to work with. We are committed to movements that continue to work for the liberation of those who face and resist colonial violence and occupation.PeerNetBC is located on the traditional, unceded territories of the xwməθ kwəyəm (Musqueam), sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and selílwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.We remain deeply grateful to Elder Roberta Price for her guidance, support, and on-going relationship with PeerNetBC. We are honoured to know her and humbled by her seemingly endless work for people and communities over many decades. Elder Roberta Price has grounded us at the start of many AGMs but may not be able to attend this year.

What to expect:We will meet together on "Zoom." Zoom is video conferencing application that is free for anyone to use. You can download Zoom on your computer, tablet, or mobile device. If you do not wish to download Zoom, that is okay too! It can run right out of your internet browser. You can find more details on Zoom here.You can expect to get the Zoom room details once you RVSP. There are many ways to join the Zoom room, including using the program mentioned above, accessing it from your internet browser, as well as by calling with your phone.Expect to have some fun! PeerNetBC staff will be there to guide you through the event, as well as share laughter, community, and good company.If you have any more questions on what to expect, you can email info@peernetbc.com.Accessibility &amp; Access Needs:We are committed to providing ASL and will secure these services for the AGM.We will also be using Zoom auto-generated closed captioning for this event.Any zoom experience levels are welcome! We are happy to support you ahead of time to learn how to join a zoom call and will have a tech person assigned during the event that you can private message or call if you are having any issues.We love seeing faces but don’t expect you to have your camera on — you’re welcome to come on and off your camera as needed. There will be a break during the event but we also encourage you to attend to your access needs (eg. eating, bathroom breaks, etc) during the event. MembershipTo be more in line with our new bylaws, structure, as well as be in compliance with the Society Act we are introducing the following process around membership. Here are some highlights of how we are going to practice membership moving forward:<ul><li>Membership is annual – If you register to be a member for PeerNetBC in one fiscal year, we will reach out to you again to ask if you would like to stay a member the next year too! It is important we receive a response from you in order to keep you on the membership list. If you forget to respond, you can also register at other times. For example, when you register to attend our AGM on Eventbrite, we will also ask you to sign up to be a member if you haven’t already.</li></ul><ul><li>Register 2 weeks before the AGM to vote! – Based on our bylaws, anyone who registers to be a member at least 2 weeks before the AGM can vote. You can still become a member after that time and attend the AGM, but you will not be able to vote during the event.</li></ul>In addition, your membership supports PeerNetBC to continue to:<ul><li>Provide capacity-building workshops and consultations to peer-led initiatives across the province</li><li>Engage with community to inform our organization’s work</li><li>Provide low-cost or free programming for multi-marginalized individuals and communities</li><li>Partner with and support grassroots groups, especially prioritizing those led by BIPOC and multi marginalized folks</li></ul>Our membership operates on a sliding scale membership fee starting at $0 dollars (suggested $20 for those that can) with nobody turned away for lack of funds. When you register for the AGM, we welcome any donations or contributions toward membership with your RSVP, however it is not required to attend the AGM or any PeerNetBC events.If this is a barrier for you for any reason and you would like to attend the AGM as a non-member, please reach out to us at info@peernetbc.com.

We have at least one opening on the board and would love to have someone that's excited about PeerNetBC's to work join us! If you’d like to support and be a part of grassroots organizing, come check us out. We’re a fun team of sick, neurodivergent, QTBIPOC, allies, and self-proclaimed misfits and nerds.What you might do:<ul><li>Attend strategic ‘dreaming’ sessions and socials between board and staff, always with food!</li><li>Email communications &amp; other governance tasks.</li><li>Overseeing the organization’s overall work.</li><li>Participating in strategic planning.</li><li>Attending 1.5hr board meetings every other month.</li><li>Influence and support PeerNetBC’s work through leveraging your own connections: help shape our programming!</li></ul>What we can offer:<ul><li>Come with your lived experience and/or curiosity: you have the opportunity to take on different roles without any prior experience. Great chance to learn something new!</li><li>A reference on your resume.</li><li>Opportunities for professional development (given funding and available workshops with our community partners).</li></ul>What we’d love:<ul><li>Someone with financial and accounting knowlege, or a willingness to learn.</li><li>Youth under the age of 30. In staying accountable to our youth community, we would like youth in more leadership roles helping us support our work!</li></ul>
