Decoys: Songs About Birds but Not Really About Birds

Decoys: Songs About Birds but Not Really About Birds

Overview

Mezzo-soprano Heather Molloy and baritone Henry Chen sing classical and Canadian art songs inspired by the birds.

Decoys brings together a selection of art songs and duets for voice and piano inspired by birds. The programme features pieces ranging from the classical era to modern Canadian compositions by Glenn Sutherland, Alfredo Santa Ana and Emily Doolittle.

The music is presented alongside a slideshow of original bird photography from the singers’ own birdwatching journeys presented with musical, historical, and scientific-al anecdotes. Decoys is as much a recital as it is a photo exhibit, as it is a study on the importance of nature and the intersection of art and ornithology.

The program features birds from all across the globe, including songs from Canada, Europe, and Taiwan.

The show is appropriate for bird lovers of all ages and musical experience, some might even consider it mildly educational!
