Writing Memorable Memoir with Michelle Spencer

Saturday, November 21st from 10am-2pm @ The Lebel.

$75 per person, ages 18+

Unlike traditional autobiographies, memoir is a work of creative non-fiction that, when done well, reads much as fiction would. In this short course, we will explore some of the literary devices you may wish to consider for an existing or future memoir project. We will also leave room for discussing the challenges of memoir writing such as consent, vulnerability and voice.

No formal writing experience is required for any of these half-day courses. They are designed to be fun as well as instructive. Sharing your work is always optional!

Your group leader will be Michelle Spencer. Michelle has a political science as well as a journalism degree. She has worked with CBC Radio, The Centre for Digital Storytelling and as a story consultant with the University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services. Michelle is currently working on a novel and has been published in various literary magazines and newspapers. Mostly, she likes to drink tea and walk.

**This class requires a minimum number of students to run. Course fees will be refunded should the class not run but otherwise Workshop fees are non-refundable. Missed dates due to weather or instructor illness will be made up in conjunction with future class schedules. **
