Is Menopausal Hormone Therapy Safe? Breast Cancer Risks in BRCA Carriers

Is Menopausal Hormone Therapy Safe? Breast Cancer Risks in BRCA Carriers

Online event
Overview

Dr. Kotsopoulos explores menopausal hormone therapy, breast cancer risk and mortality among women with a BRCA pathogenic variant.

Women with a pathogenic variant (mutation hereafter) in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene face the highest known lifetime risks of developing breast cancer. Notably, incidence rates increase rapidly in early adulthood but remain high even after age 60. Thus, understanding how exogenous hormones impact these risks is important for the safe clinical management of high-risk women, especially following early surgical menopause. In this session, Dr. Kotsopoulos will be providing an overview of her recent studies evaluating the impact of menopausal hormone therapy on breast cancer risk and mortality.
