Event starts at 12:00 p.m.

Panelists: Hedaya Saleh Shamun, Laila Hashem, and Mariam Shakka

Facilitator: Sonya Fatah

Join us for the second Free School event, a discussion exploring different experiences documenting the stories of Palestinian people in Gaza, asking complicated questions about the role of journalism in a time of genocide. This conversation features Gazan journalist, writer and researcher Hedaya Saleh Shamun in conversation with Laila Hashem and Mariam Shakka, two Palestinian performers from Living with Drones, a live journalism show created in collaboration with Gazan journalists. Sonya Fatah, director of Living with Drones, will facilitate this conversation.

This lunch-time panel includes a complementary meal from Palestine Bakeshop.

Directions to DCC 707/709

DCC is a locked building with external doors that require keycard access. We will have a volunteer at the main entrance if you do not have a keycard. If you are a TMU student, staff, or faculty member, use your OneCard to enter. In the lobby are three elevators that can be used to reach the 7th floor. Please note that only the right-most elevator (closest to the Security desk) requires keycard access. Go right once you have reached the 7th floor and DCC 707/709 will be the joint classroom on the left, towards the end of the hallway. We will have directional signage in the lobby and on the 7th floor.

Access

All of the events in our Free School are free and open to the public. Please register to confirm your attendance.

DCC is a barrier-free venue. Across from DCC 707/709 is an accessible washroom with a push-to open button, a push-to-lock button, and a toilet with grab rails. Attendees are asked to wear a mask unless they have a medical exception. Masks may be removed while eating or drinking. We will have K95 masks on site.

A light lunch will be provided by the Palestine Bakeshop. We will have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. All food provided is Halal. We will have a separate dining area available.
