Code Zero to Superhero: An AI-Powered Python Series
Free | Thursdays - Next Session - November 5th
Want to use code in your research or build a project of your own, but not sure where to start? Join us for a free, three-session series that takes you from Code Zero to Superhero with Python, and shows you how AI can help you code faster and get unstuck.
Hosted by SURGE Science & Innovation Sandbox and Dr. Marta Kryven, this series builds step by step. It works whether you're opening a code editor for the first time, getting back into Python after a break, or ready to start coding with AI. Attend all three sessions, or join the ones that fit your level. Each session will integrate AI into the learning process to help you build new skills and get up to speed faster.
Sessions:
- Session 1: Getting Started with Python
Thursday, October 22, 2026, 12:30 – 1:30 PM
The basics, starting with opening and setting up your first coding environment.
- Session 2: Building Interactive Research Applications and Data Analytics with AI
Thursday, November 5th, 2026, 12:30-1:30PM
In this hands-on demonstration, we'll use AI coding agents (such as Claude Code and Codex) to transform a real scientific dataset into an interactive web application, explore and visualize the results, and generate a research report.
- Session 3: Unlocking Superpowers with AI
TBA
Coding alongside AI, for those who already know the basics.
When: Next Session: November 5th, 2026
Where: SURGE, LSC 02660
Cost: Free
Who it's for: Any student, researcher, or innovator who wants to use Python for their projects and get their skills up to speed quickly with AI. No experience needed.
What to bring: A laptop with VS Code installed. Installing Python and Jupyter extension before the workshop is strongly recommended. Access to an AI tool of your choice. We will use Claude Code to demonstrate assisted coding.
