Astronomy on Tap: Kitchener-Waterloo

Astronomy on Tap: Kitchener-Waterloo

Overview

Come and learn about time, space, and the Universe – over a beer!

Astronomy on Tap is back in KW, so join us to sit back, relax, and learn about the Universe, while also having a couple of drinks and a bit of fun!

Almost all the information we receive from the cosmos comes in the form of light, which astronomers detect using telescopes. But what about those parts of space that don't produce any light? How can we study the darkest regions of our Universe?

At Astronomy on Tap this month, we'll hear from two speakers about how we can study these elusive parts of space. Alice Chen will give a brief history of our Universe, and its components like dark matter and dark energy. Then, Ethan Smith will speak about dark sirens -- signals produced by colliding black holes in the distant Universe.
