STEP Lauch
Launch Event for the newest CDC program that provides support for individuals and businesses impacted by tariffs
The STEP Welcome Session is the official launch of the Strategic Tariff-Relief Entrepreneurship Program (STEP) in Sault Ste. Marie. STEP is a new three-year program from the Community Development Corporation of Sault Ste. Marie & Area (CDC), funded by FedNor, for local people and businesses impacted by tariffs.
This 90-minute session at the CDC office is your chance to hear about the program from the team that runs it, ask your questions in person and find out whether STEP is a fit for you or for the people you support.
What to expect:
- An introduction to STEP: why it was created and who it serves
- The funding: up to $10,000 in non-repayable support for laid-off workers starting a business, and up to $25,000 for businesses impacted by tariffs, covering up to 50% of eligible costs, plus CDC loans for the rest
- Support beyond funding: free one-on-one business consultations and a free workshop series, from business planning, cash flow, and bookkeeping to using AI, scaling and reaching global markets
- How to apply, step by step, and what happens after you apply (most applications are decided within 2 to 4 weeks)
- Open Q&A with CDC staff
Who should attend:
- Individuals laid off or with reduced hours because of tariffs who are thinking about starting a business
- Owners of businesses that have lost revenue or clients, or face higher costs, because of tariffs
- Community partners and organizations who support them
You don't need a business plan or a finished idea to attend. Come with your questions, and we'll help you figure out your next step.
