Why Train the Next Hero?

Train the Next Hero was born in North York after the Yonge Street van attack on April 23, 2018. We believe that if more of the people around that day had been trained in first aid and CPR, some of the victims would have had a better chance of survival. We held the first Train the Next Hero at Mel Lastman Square less than a month later, and nearly 3,000 people have registered for the event since. In 2026, we are taking that mission across Canada.

What We Will Teach:

  • CPR and AED: how to give chest compressions and how to use an automated external defibrillator
  • Choking: how to recognize choking and help someone who cannot breathe
  • Opioid poisoning: how to recognize an opioid poisoning and what to do until help arrives

What To Expect:

  • A hands-on, 1-hour workshop led by our professional instructors
  • Small groups, so everyone gets time to practise on a CPR manikin
  • Clear, simple steps you can use in a real emergency

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Why is there no certificate? This free 1-hour workshop is an introduction to the skills that matter most in the first minutes of an emergency, not a full certification course. A full Canadian Red Cross certification needs more time than a single hour allows: typically 4 to 8 hours of in-class training, plus a similar amount of online learning for blended courses, followed by a hands-on skills assessment.

A special offer for participants: As a thank-you for taking part, every workshop participant will receive a special discount on Canadian Red Cross certification courses with Coast2Coast First Aid & Aquatics. Details will be shared at the event. To explore our courses, visit www.c2cfirstaidaquatics.com or call us at 1-866-291-9121.

Please wear comfortable clothing, since CPR practice happens on the floor.

RESERVE YOUR FREE TICKET ON EVENTBRITE. NO WALK-INS: PLEASE SHOW YOUR TICKET AT THE ENTRANCE AND ARRIVE ON TIME.
