Mar30, 2020 - The sessions will be delivered remotely and some changes have been made<ul><li>Intro to R is cancelled</li><li>Only one NVivo remote session will be offered</li><li>Beginner&#x27;s SAS session and Intermediate SAS session are available </li><li>Instructions on how to download software onto own computers included below</li></ul>Dedoose for qualitative data analysis - Olesya Falenchuk - DELIVERED REMOTELYWednesday April 15 9-12PM Dedoose is a cloud-based software for analysis of qualitative and mixed data, such as transcripts of in-depth interviews, focus groups and field notes, data from electronic web surveys, audio, and video data. The web-based nature of this software allows collaborations of the researchers across different platforms (PC and Mac) in real time. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce participants to Dedoose software, discuss the key points for efficient use and teamwork, as well as to provide participants with an opportunity to acquire some hands-on experience. Specifically, the participants will learn how to link their data to Dedoose, code qualitative data, manage quantitative data, and explore the patterns and trends in the findings with a variety of visual tools. Handouts will be provided for Mac users.Wednesday April 15 1-4PM NVivo 12 is a software package for analysis of qualitative data, such as transcripts of in-depth interviews, focus groups and field notes, data from electronic web surveys, audio, video, and social media data. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce participants to the NVivo 12 Suite, discuss the key differences between different versions of this software, as well as to provide participants with an opportunity to acquire some hands-on experience. Specifically, the participants will learn how to prepare their text and media data for analyses with NVivo 12, import and organize their data in NVivo, add research notes while analyzing the data, and code qualitative data in a variety of different ways. This workshop will introduce students to the mapmaking process in ArcGIS, from understanding geographic data to producing polished maps for a variety of purposes. No background in geography or experience with spatial data is needed.Note that ArcGIS is free to UofT students via Map and Data Library (<a href="https://mdl.library.utoronto.ca/technology/gis-software/esri-software-request" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://mdl.library.utoronto.ca/technology/gis-software/esri-software-request</a>) and can only be installed on Windows computers. You should download this prior to attending. Advanced Introduction to STATA- Jonathan Fan Friday April 17 9-3PMThis is an advanced introduction to Stata intended for people already comfortable programming in SAS, R or SPSS and who wish to do a ‘cross-over’ to Stata. Familiarity with writing code and analyzing data in these other languages will be an asset as some topics will be covered quickly. Attendees will learn how to navigate the Stata interface and working environment, create syntax files for reproducibility, manipulate data (import, inspect, clean, collapse record-level data, reshape, merge), and create derived variables for analysis. Advanced coding techniques will be introduced briefly (loops, macro variables, extracting estimates for later use). The second portion of the workshop will cover examples of the most commonly used techniques for analyzing data, including descriptive and regression models, creating tables, and exporting basic figures. Other supplemental topics will be covered (e.g., incorporating confounding and mediating variables, interactions), time permitting.Experience needed: Most attendees will have taken previous intermediate statistics courses using software (examples include CHL5202 Biostatistics II, CHL5406 Quantitative Methods for Biomedical Research, CHL5407 Categorical Data Analysis for Epidemiologic Studies, or CHL5208 Lab in Statistical Design and Analysis)Software: Sarah will request a 1 week license closer to April 17 and will send along further instructions to install the software on your own computers. Beginners SAS - Vasily Giannakeas - DELVERED REMOTELYMonday April 20 9-4PM --&gt; RESCHEDULED To April 27 9-4PMThis workshop is designed to introduce students to the principles and methods of basic epidemiological analysis using SAS statistical software. Through attending the workshop, students will get comfortable with the SAS interface and working environment, learn how to merge multiple data sets into one analysis data set, and understand how to operationalize data using SAS. Students will become comfortable with several key procedures and data steps in SAS, as well as be exposed to many of the common syntax options that can be applied when manipulating, describing, and analyzing data in SAS. The goal of this workshop is to provide SAS users with detailed understanding of data manipulation, data merging and desired outputs. The workshop will begin with a brief high-level overview of beginner programming in SAS. Students will be provided epidemiological data and will be taught efficient programming and shortcuts by example. Students will be introduced to programming methods that allow for efficient iterative processing, this includes do/while loops, arrays, indexing, and macro language programming. This will be accompanied by approaches for the output of tables and results including the PROC SQL procedure and the Output Delivery System (ODS).
