Let&#x27;s have a ceilidh! A celebration of music connecting traditional music from Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island! What can you expect? An evening of music complete with stories, fiddling, song and of course, the best step dancing on red soil you-ever-did-see!Join the Chaisson Trio (Kevin Chaisson, Rannie MacLellan, Louise Chaisson-MacKinnon) with special guest, Troy MacGillivray, champion step dancer, Taylor MacBeath and host, Marsha Weeks for a Prince Edward Island summer must-do, a PEI Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee).Troy MacGillivrayNova Scotia&#x27;s Troy MacGillivray has a musical prowess that can be attributed to an especially rare combination of commitment and bloodline. From a young age, Troy was impressing audiences with his fiddle, piano and step dancing, skills. He has completed Grade 7 of the Toronto Conservatory of Music for classical piano, spent 4 years in a stringed orchestra, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music from St. F X University and received an Applied Music Technology Diploma for recording engineering. He has a roots-centered approach to his fiddling and piano playing that has the power to inspire any audience and has played across Canada, the US and UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan and Australia. Troy plays the music of his ancestors who immigrated to Canada from Scotland over 200 years ago. Today, he focuses on playing not only traditional tunes but also his own compositions which are receiving international recognized and are being recorded by other artists from across Canada and around the world. Troy recently composed The New Tunemakers which was a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition in the Instrumental Category. With over 15,000 entries submitted, Troy was one of only 7 Canadians to reach the finals!The multi-talented, multi-award winning instrumentalist is known for his ability to unearth the lesser-played but great tunes of respected composers. With such tunes in his repertoire, Troy has assembled his 6th album called Tune Poets which weaves some of his own compositions alongside fantastic and unique arrangements of great composers from the traditional fiddle world to present a wide and varied mix of music that will captivate fans old and new alike. Tune Poets is an instrumental recording that highlights the great composers Calvin Vollrath, King Ganam, Scott Skinner, Andrea Beaton, Phil Cunningham, Gordon MacQuarrie, John Campbell, Donald Angus Beaton, Wilfred Gillis, Dougie MacDonald and Natalie MacMaster.Recent Career Highlights include:* Recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal, September 2012* Numerous recordings on the CDs of multiple artists including Calvin Vollrath, Andrea Beaton, Rosanna Burrell, Patti Lamoureux and Alex Lamoureux* Extensive touring and concert schedule including appearances at the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention in Ireland, Richmond Folk Festival, Celtic Connections in Scotland, Ceolas Festival in Scotland, Milwaukee Irish Festival, Chicago Irish Festival, Godtfolk Festival in Denmark, Folk Alliance International in Memphis, Celtic Colours in Cape Breton and many others* Busy teaching roster including, Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Camp, Elkins West Virginia Irish and Celtic weeks, Alianait Fiddle Workshops in Nunavut, Milwaukee Irish Festival Camp and many others* Finalist, International Songwriting Competition (ISC), 2010Published Trad Tracks Volume I, educational CD, 2009So whether playing piano or fiddle, or showcasing his step dancing capabilities, Troy MacGillivray displays an intense commitment to the Celtic heritage he inherited from his Highland ancestors.The Chaisson TrioKevin Chaisson, a highly-coveted piano player from Bear River, PEI, has deep roots in traditional music on Prince Edward Island. The Chaisson family have been widely acclaimed as being influential in ensuring that traditional music is passed on to future generations of Prince Edward Island.Our fiddler, Rannie MacLellan is from Margaree, Cape Breton (in nearby Nova Scotia). MacLellan’s signature rhythmic strathspeys and lively reels are a highlight of the ceilidh, showcasing the Cape Breton style of fiddling inspired by various fiddlers like the late Jerry Holland, a dear friend of MacLellan’s. Singer, Louise Chaisson-MacKinnon has a soulful voice and a large repertoire of lively maritime songs to share from all our favourites like Anne Murray, Stan Rogers and The Rankins, to name a few.Step Dancer Maestro, Taylor MacBeath - you&#x27;ll have to see it to believe it! Her steps are sharp, her signature moves are champion and her energy is infectious! Proud Islander, Host, and just-for-fun fiddler, Marsha Weeks will welcome you all with a good dose of PEI hospitality and showcase years of musical talent on stage.The bespoke venue, Stanley Bridge Historic Women&#x27;s Insititute Hall is the icing on the cake honouring the history of Prince Edward Island with beautiful accoustics, an initmate setting and brings you back to a time when community halls were the centre of social events.
