Come join us for a walking tour of South Ladysmith as we discuss your priorities for active transportation.

South Ladysmith

South Ladysmith, like many suburban areas on Vancouver Island, is highly autocentric. This is largely due to how the area was planned and the longer distances residents have to travel to key destinations. Walking distance to most commercial and retail destinations (such as grocery stores) is anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes, depending on the household’s address. Walking distances to schools are over 50 minutes, which largely make these trips too far for most children to walk. Its low street connectivity make driving the most convenient option. With transportation accounting for 55% of Ladysmith’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the need for more sustainable transportation choices in areas such as South Ladysmith is of utmost importance. The tour will explore the following topics / questions:•	What kinds of cycling infrastructure are needed to make cycling more attractive in South Ladysmith?•	Where would it be appropriate to locate future mixed-use developments and under what conditions would you likely walk to them? •	What role does transit have in providing service to suburban areas such as South Ladysmith?If you are unable to physically participate in a one-hour walking tour, please get in touch by emailing info@ladysmith.ca.
