The Big Hit

As a non-profit cultural organization, Kelowna Film Society has applied for and been granted an exemption under section 4 of the Motion Picture Act. This exemption allows us to screen films which have not yet been classified by Consumer Protection BC.  Kelowna Film Society is responsible for operating in compliance with the Motion Picture Act and Consumer Protection BC. To attend a Kelowna Film Society film screening (which may not have been classified by Consumer Protection BC), you must be a Kelowna Film Society member.  Your membership is included in the ticket price.The Kelowna Film Society’s past seasons of great cinema have drawn local film fanciers since 2007.  The prestigious Toronto International Film Festival has been the society’s main source of powerful releases from the world of cinema, including foreign language offerings, Canadian films, hard-to-find independent films, quality documentaries, as well as crowd-pleasing comedies, dramas and the occasional block-buster. Helped by many loyal volunteers, the staff of the Orchard Plaza Cineplex, 1876 Cooper Road, Kelowna, and the financial support of discriminating and loyal patrons, the society has supported local film students and film makers with grants, bursaries and other assistance totalling more than $30,000.

<p>THE BIG HIT – a sparky French language comedy, winner of the European Film Awards Best Comedy. Etienne, a “resting” actor, works with an unlikely troupe of prisoners to stage Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”. Clearly, a double mindbender of a challenge, but taking the inmate actors on tour is really something else again! One viewer commented, “Exciting, Fun, Stressful, Everything!”  (1 hour, 45 minutes, French and Russian with English subtitles)</p>
