ISF2022: The O Show

Established in 2011, the Indian Summer Festival (ISF) is a multi-disciplinary arts festival produced by the Indian Summer Arts Society, a not-for-profit charitable arts organization based in Vancouver, Canada, on the unceded Coast Salish territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. This year’s festival runs from July 4-14 2024. Its mission is to offer multi-art experiences of exceptional caliber, thoughtfully curated through a South Asian lens. ISF connects rich and complex pasts with the emerging future, delighting audiences while provoking necessary dialogue and debate.

The many worlds of Orene Askew.“Orene has stepped up to the plate to represent her communities, and her brilliance has not gone unnoticed.” - Stir VancouverMUSIC SERIES PARTNER: Creative BCOrene Askew aka <a href="https://indiansummerfest.ca/artists/dj-o-show/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DJ O Show</a> has many identities – a sought after DJ, vibrant motivational speaker, a two-spirited Afro-Indigenous person, a former Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) councillor and a pillar of Vancouver’s LGBT+ community. Join us for an intimate evening with Orene that gives an insight into her varied worlds, intersections and identities. The evening starts with a screening of ‘The O Show’, an award-winning documentary film directed by <a href="https://indiansummerfest.ca/artists/sharad-khare/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sharad Kharé</a> on Orene’s life and work that is making waves around the world. Then dig deeper and listen to Orene and Sharad live in conversation. But an evening with Orene would not be complete without music (Orene’s motto is ‘diversity makes beautiful music’), and so we’ll get the chairs out of the way, roll the shutters up to let the air in, and turn Performance Works into a dance floor with Orene behind the console. FAQsWhich type of ticket should I purchase?All ISF2022 events offer subsidized tickets for individuals facing financial barriers in accessing arts programming (subject to availability).Ask yourself:<ul><li>Are you and your family homeowners or landowners?</li><li>Have you attended private education, or have an advanced degree?</li><li>Can you easily access and afford healthcare services?</li><li>Do you have no debt and/or have disposable income?</li></ul>If your answers were all ‘Yes’ please consider the Pay It Forward Admission price point. This allows us to offer our subsidized tickets to audience members in need.Your answers were mostly ‘Yes’ or evenly split - we suggest the General Admission price point.If your answers were majority or all ‘No’, we suggest the Subsidized Admission price point (subject to availability and offered across all of our ticketed events).(thanks to Meenakshi Das of Data is for Everyone for the sliding scale framework)Are there service fees on top of the ticket price?For your convenience, our listed ticket prices include GST and service fees. Do I need a ticket to attend this event if I make a donation?Yes! Please purchase a ticket if you wish to attend this event. You may add a donation to your order if you wish to support Indian Summer Arts Society further. Donations alone do not grant admission, however, donations of $25+ qualify for membership and a charitable tax receipt which will be issued in January following the calendar year in which your donation was made.Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?There are no age restrictions for this event. Attendees of any age require a ticket. Is there reserved seating?Seating is first-come-first-served. If you require accessible seating, you will be asked for these details during the checkout process. An ISF staff member will contact you shortly. Will there be tickets available at the door? While there may be some tickets available at the door, we recommend buying in advance as many events do sell out. Tickets will be sold at the door while supplies last, available for purchase by debit or credit card.
