ISF2022: 5x15

Established in 2011, the Indian Summer Festival (ISF) is a multi-disciplinary arts festival produced by the Indian Summer Arts Society, a not-for-profit charitable arts organization based in Vancouver, Canada, on the unceded Coast Salish territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. This year’s festival runs from July 4-14 2024. Its mission is to offer multi-art experiences of exceptional caliber, thoughtfully curated through a South Asian lens. ISF connects rich and complex pasts with the emerging future, delighting audiences while provoking necessary dialogue and debate.

The Art of the Wild ‘If 5×15’s packed soirees feel like an evening of offline, communal surfing, it’s due to the eclectic menu of speakers.’ – The New York TimesEVENT PRESENTING PARTNER: SFU Library5×15 is a global speakers series that has hosted some of the world’s most highly regarded thinkers. Quite simply, it features five stellar speakers, speaking for fifteen minutes each on a topic they are deeply passionate about. The result is a heady, stimulating evening of mind-expanding perspectives. Since 2014, the Indian Summer Festival has hosted the only Canadian iteration of 5×15, and we return in 2022 with a stellar lineup of writers, musicians, filmmakers and activists to speak of our complex relationship with the wilderness in our inner and outer worlds. They are:Award-winning actor, screenwriter and director <a href="https://indiansummerfest.ca/artists/agam-darshi/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Agam Darshi</a> on wildness in individuals, and the personal, social and political climates that thwart or encourage it. <a href="https://indiansummerfest.ca/artists/merlin-sheldrake/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Merlin Sheldrake</a>, New York Times Bestselling author of ‘Entangled Life’ on how fungi make our worlds, can change our minds, heal our bodies, and shape our futures. Environmental advocate <a href="https://indiansummerfest.ca/artists/anjali-appadurai/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Anjali Appadurai</a> on climate justice and weaving politics and art together to reflect the times we are living in and galvanize true collective action. Multi-dimensional musician <a href="https://indiansummerfest.ca/artists/ruby-singh/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ruby Singh</a> on Polyphonic Garden, his musical project aligned with the solar cycle and incorporating field recordings of wild places and beings and plantwave technology that converts electrical data from plants and fungi into sound. And it wouldn’t be an ISF special if we didn’t break format to present a special conversation between the legendary Oscar-nominated filmmaker <a href="https://indiansummerfest.ca/artists/deepa-mehta/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Deepa Mehta</a> and the Booker Prize nominated writer <a href="https://indiansummerfest.ca/artists/avni-doshi/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Avni Doshi</a> on a soon-to-be film. You’ll be the first to get this sneak peek as the project moves from page to screen. FAQsWhich type of ticket should I purchase?All ISF2022 events offer subsidized tickets for individuals facing financial barriers in accessing arts programming (subject to availability).Ask yourself:<ul><li>Are you and your family homeowners or landowners?</li><li>Have you attended private education, or have an advanced degree?</li><li>Can you easily access and afford healthcare services?</li><li>Do you have no debt and/or have disposable income?</li></ul>If your answers were all ‘Yes’ please consider the Pay It Forward Admission price point. This allows us to offer our subsidized tickets to audience members in need.Your answers were mostly ‘Yes’ or evenly split - we suggest the General Admission price point.If your answers were majority or all ‘No’, we suggest the Subsidized Admission price point (subject to availability and offered across all of our ticketed events).(thanks to Meenakshi Das of Data is for Everyone for the sliding scale framework)Are there service fees on top of the ticket price?For your convenience, our listed ticket prices include GST and service fees. Do I need a ticket to attend this event if I make a donation?Yes! Donations alone do not grant admission, however, donations of $25+ qualify for membership and a charitable tax receipt which will be issued in January following the calendar year in which your donation was made.Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?There are no age restrictions for this event. Attendees of any age require a ticket. Is there reserved seating?Seating is first-come-first-served. If you require accessible seating, you will be asked for these details during the checkout process. An ISF staff member will contact you shortly. Will there be tickets available at the door? While there may be some tickets available at the door, we recommend buying in advance as many events do sell out. Tickets will be sold at the door while supplies last, available for purchase by debit or credit card.
