Join us for our kick off webinar for Organic Week! This interactive panel will be delving into the diverse perspectives of organic sector leaders on the topic of regenerating organic. Panelists include: Nadia Andruchow from Henry’s Tempeh, Kate McMurray from The Big Carrot, and Allison Squires from Upland Organics. Moderated by COTA, this session explores the business challenges and rewards of doing business organically. Question &amp; Answer period will follow. Moderated by COTA's Kim DeLallo, Membership and Business Development Manager.Will be live on Zoom.

Allison is an co-owner and operator of Upland Organics (www.uplandorganics.ca), a mixed cattle and organic grain farm located near Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan, with her husband and three children. Upland Organics has been certified organic for over a decade and produces several crop types including pulses, cereals, and oilseeds. Upland Organics utilizes many different techniques to improve the health and functionally of the soil. These include crop diversity, reduced tillage, compost, compost teas and the full integration of livestock using planned rotational grazing. Allison currently serves on the Standards Interpretation Committee, is a director on the IFOAM North America board and is the president of the Canadian Organic Growers.

Kate is a certified nutritionist and healthy food systems advocate. For 10 years her work at The Big Carrot has focused on championing organic agriculture, building better food literacy, and fostering creative partnerships in the community.    The Big Carrot is a worker-owned natural food market that has been committed to local, organic, non-GMO and sustainable food systems since 1983. Growing from 9 founding partners to a thriving worker-owned business, The Big Carrot is run in the same democratic manner as when it first opened. Its approach to health includes creating and protecting sustainable, robust food systems and facilitating community innovation. Each year The Big Carrot funds two grant streams: Carrot Cache and Natures Finest Fund which support sustainable farming and equitable food systems in Ontario.

Nadia Andruchow is a fermentation fanatic, a Registered Dietitian, and the Operations Director at Henry’s Tempeh. In 2020, she led the business’ first ever organic certification. Before coming to Henry’s Tempeh she worked in healthcare leadership for Six Nations of the Grand River. She is indebted to her friends and colleagues there for teaching her about sustainable foodways, the importance of food justice, and food sovereignty for all people. Nadia lives in Kitchener ON, with her family and enjoys growing food, collecting old recipes, and maintaining and preserving her family’s food traditions.
