Historic Walking Tours: Port Credit Heritage District

Heritage Mississauga is the only independent city-wide organization devoted to heritage matters in Mississauga.Incorporated as a not-for-profit charity in 1960 as the Toronto Township Historical Foundation, changed later to the Mississauga Heritage Foundation, the organization has been a significant contributor to the city’s cultural development.  Established to develop and manage a Museum focused on the Bradley family of 1840, Heritage Mississauga changed its mandate in 1994 to focus its work on researching, recording and celebrating heritage city-wide.We advocate for the preservation of our city’s heritage legacy and through dedicated programming focused on oral history, record keeping, outreach and celebrations, Heritage Mississauga hopes that the preservation and promotion of our collective heritage continues to be an important component of the identity of the city.Our shared heritage is an important element in fostering and maintaining Mississauga’s sense of community, pride and history. Heritage Mississauga is pleased to announce that our series of Historic Walking Tours will begin on Saturday July 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.Heritage tour guide Richard Collins will take participants on a journey back to historic Port Credit with a guided walk through the Port Credit Heritage District.In 2005, Old Port Credit Village was designated as a Heritage Conservation District and much of it has retained its architectural character and heritage, as well as its early street names. Buildings of historic interest here include village landmarks — ranging from the oldest surviving building in the district to landmarks of the 1950s — and modest vernacular dwellings dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.We invite you to take a stroll through history with us this summer.For more information contact Kelly Ralston at info@heritagemississauga.org or visit our website at https://heritagemississauga.com/Tours are free and we just ask that you tip your tour guide!Tours will take place from July 30, 2022 to September 17, 2022 and will include various walks through Port Credit, Clarkson, and Lakeview.
