Great Fundy Coastal CleanupLocation: South Wolf Island Nature PreserveMeeting Location: Blacks HarbourDate: August 20th, 2022Rain date: August 21st, 2022Time: 8:00am - 3:00pmCost: FreeLeader: Nature Trust of New Brunswick StaffRegistration: OnlineNumber of Available Registrations: 18 Description: Help restore the coastal ecosystem by participating in this cleanup at the South Wolf Island Nature Preserve!South Wolf Island is the southernmost island in the Wolves Archipelago, in the lower Bay of Fundy, roughly 12 km from Blacks Harbour.The Wolves Archipelago has received international recognition as part of an Important Bird Area and is an Environmentally Significant Area for birds. The islands are a wintering site for harlequin ducks and purple sandpipers, and are also home to a variety of seabirds including breeding populations of black legged kittiwakes, common eiders, great black-backed gulls, herring gull, and razorbills. The land bird species include song sparrow, black-throated green warblers, American crows, and ravens. Two extremely rare plants, marsh felwort (Lomatogonium rotatum) and round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia var. comosa) are also found here.At this cleanup, teams will work together to identify and remove debris along the shorelines of the preserve. Participants should be prepared for travel by boat, collecting garbage, and some bushwhacking. More details will be circulated to participants upon registration and in advance of the cleanup event. Les îles sont un site d'hivernage pour les arlequins plongeurs et les bécasseaux violets, et abritent également une variété d'oiseaux de mer, notamment des populations reproductrices de mouettes tridactyles, d'eiders à duvet, de goélands marins, de goélands argentés et de petits pingouins. Les espèces d'oiseaux terrestres comprennent le bruant chanteur, la paruline verte à gorge noire, la corneille d'Amérique et le corbeau.
