Vicarious trauma & secondary stress

Members of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers are required to complete annual professional development, which must include training or activities related to preventing and managing vicarious trauma and secondary stress.

<p>Communities of practice are wonderful opportunities for like-minded practitioners, or professionals engaged in similar areas of practice, to be able to gather together and share ideas and best practices. They are an opportunity for networking, fellowship, resource sharing, and advocacy development. They can also help reduce burnout by reminding us that we are not alone, but rather part of a larger whole.</p><p>The NSCSW Connections Committee is hosting its second Communities of Practice gathering: a quarterly lunch time virtual gathering where we can come together and reconnect with one another. We will meet together briefly, then break up into small groups to meet and discuss.</p><p>Here are the discussion groups currently planned: </p><ul><li>Child welfare (frontline only)</li><li>Mental health (frontline only)</li><li>Leadership</li><li>Housing insecurity/homelessness</li><li>Schools/Education</li><li>Medical social work/geriatric/palliative care and hospice</li><li>Justice/IPV/GBV/DV/violence</li><li>Private practice </li><li>BIPOC/racialized practitioners</li></ul><p>If you are interested in facilitating a discussion group with an additional area of practice, please let us know in advance.</p><h2>Eligibility</h2><p>Must be a current member of the <a href="https://nscsw.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nova Scotia College of Social Workers</a> to attend; all active, associate, retired, and student members are welcome. There is no other prerequisite for this session. </p><p>You&#x27;ll need a device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and a reasonably reliable internet connection.</p><h2>Questions? </h2><p>If you have questions, please contact the College&#x27;s Professional Practice Consultant, N Siritsky, at nsiritsky@nscsw.org.</p><p></p>
