The Cotton FactoryThe former site of the Imperial Cotton Co. is a prime example of adaptive reuse. In the heart of lower Hamilton, The Cotton Factory has been transformed into a creative industries complex, with space for workshops and small manufacturing, office space for creative professionals, and studios for artists.  Though the complex is now fully leased, the community and uses of the complex are always growing and evolving.Over 100 tenants currently call the The Cotton Factory home for their artistic or creative practice. Among them are photographers, designers, curators, painters, potters, textile artists and woodworkers. Areas of the building have also been used for a wide variety of television and movie productions.

The Women&#x27;s Art Association welcomes all ages to drop into their studio at the Cotton Factory in CoWork and make a Mandela.A mandala is a piece of art comprised of geometric patterns and symbols. In Sanskrit, mandala translates to mean circle or center. The word mandala has particular meanings in spiritual practices in the way it represents one&#x27;s own spiritual journey from the outside of oneself inward.Creating and reflecting on the mandala&#x27;s signature design elements are both considered meditative practices, but many also view mandalas as tools for relaxation and creativity. Traditionally mandalas are created as a circular representation where the colours, patterns, and shapes are repeated in layers emanating from the center of the circle.Mandalas can be created in the shape of a square as well, but the most important thing about the shape of mandalas is that the patterns are connected. Symbolically, the mandala image is meant to represent the universe, portraying that within it, everything is connected, and that life has infinite potential.The Mandela appears in the art and architecture – in one form or another – of various cultures around the world.
