I﻿t's that time of year again when we gather as the organic sector, reflecting on our accomplishments and what next steps the sector needs to take to go to the next level of success.T﻿he Organic Summit will start at 9:30 am EDT on Monday, November 21, following the Canada Organic Trade Association Annual General Meeting (COTA members only event) which will run from 7:30am-9:00am EDT. For COTA members, a buffet breakfast will be served starting at 7:00am so feel free to come early and mingle with other members in advance of the AGM starting.T﻿he Organic Summit is open to the public and has become the annual meeting place of the organic sector since the dissolution of the Organic Roundtable in 2019. A star-studded line up of speakers, an annual update from the Canada Organic Regime, workshops and break out groups are all in the planning stages, focussed around the theme of Regenerating Organic From the Roots Up! Coffee breaks, snacks, and lunches will be included in your registration price. The conference will wrap up at 4:30pm on November 21st, to allow us time to travel to the Parliamentary reception on Wellington Street.COTA's Parliamentary Reception (non-partisan) has proudly been sponsored by Elizabeth May (Green Party), Luc Berthold (Conservative), Francis Drouin (Liberal), and Alistair MacGregor (New Democratic Party). This important event is attended by Members of Parliament from your ridings, Senators and staff of Parliament. It is the chance for the organic sector to shine and mingle with decision makers with delectable organic food and beverages while hearing words from decision makers and the organic sector. The Parliament Hill reception will take place from 5:30-8:30pm EDT on the eve of the first day of the Summit, November 21st. The event will take place at Room 325 of the Wellington Building. We have already invited all MPs and Senators to the reception and are pleased that our RSVP list is already nearing 50 MPs and Senators that have confirmed their attendance! This is an event you do not want to miss. More details will be announced after registration.O﻿n Tuesday, November 22nd, we will do a group photo on the Hill starting at 8:00am and then go directly into our lobbying mode! A COTA team leader will be assigned to your small group of organic representatives. Meetings with MPs and Senators will be prearranged according to your constituency . A training on speaking points and your confirmed schedule will be provided closer to the event. L﻿unch will be provided in a grab and go format that can accommodate the various schedules and meetings. All MP and Senator meetings are currently being planned in person (unless things change, so we all need to be prepared to pivot). While not in lobby meetings in the Hill, we will be hosting a series of workshops back at the conference venue for you to participate in.A﻿s has been tradition at the end of our two day event, we will arrange to gather again at the end of our lobby meetings for a casual drink at a local pub (3 Brewers, 240 Sparks Street) to debrief our Hill meetings and say a final farewell until next year's Organic Summit!
