The Bentway STEM Days with Kids Coding

The Bentway works to ignite the urban imagination, using the city as site, subject, and canvas. Anchored under Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway and guiding its complex future, The Bentway is a growing public space, and much more. It is a new type of civic organization: an independent charity and a not-for-profit, powered by vital partnerships with the City of Toronto, residents, supporters, artists, creatives, city-builders, and dreamers. The Bentway is a catalyst rooted in experimentation, demonstration, and regeneration; leading a creative movement to re-imagine the opportunities of urban spaces.Since Phase 1 of The Bentway – under the Gardiner from Strachan Ave to Fort York Blvd – opened in 2018, it has proven to be a vital public space, backyard park, cultural platform, connector for the western Waterfront corridor and a demonstration of what is possible. This Fall, The Bentway is teaming up with Kids Coding to offer a series of fun and free Saturday workshops.

The Bentway Studio

This Fall, <a href="https://www.thebentway.ca/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Bentway</a> is excited to be teaming up with our neighbours at <a href="https://www.kidscoding.ca/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Kids Coding</a> to offer a series of family-friendly workshops, inviting kids to learn the principles of science, engineering, technology, and the arts through creative play. Hosted in <a href="https://g.page/thebentwaystudio?share" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Bentway Studio</a> space, these workshops will feature a different theme and a ‘build your own’ activity each week, from rockets to robots.Please note that parents and/or guardians must accompany children under the age of 16 at all times. Workshop materials may include the use of scissors, hot glue guns, and staples.W﻿ORKSHOPS:Saturday, October 15 | 12:00PM - 3:00PM: To Infinity &amp; Beyond!Let's shoot for the moon together with your own customizable rocket and landing flags. Test them out on our exciting launch pads and mark how far your rocket can fly! Saturday, October 22 | 12:00PM - 3:00PM : Vroom &amp; Zoom Propeller Cars!Learn about propulsion by building your very own speedy race car with a simple motor and batteries. Race them on our Roller Runway and cheer for the fastest ones! Saturday, November 5 | 12:00PM - 3:00PM: Fly High Airplane Launchers!Design your own airplane and launcher out of paper, popsicle sticks, and rubber bands. How far can you make your airplane fly? Come and find out! Saturday, November 12 | 12:00PM - 3:00PM: Doodle Away Doodle Bot!Make your own artistic robot that draws cool patterns on its own! Have fun by adding its creative doodles to a shared mural for everyone to enjoy.
