<h1>E﻿xhibition Opening Reception</h1><h3><a href="https://www.uvic.ca/library/locations/index.php" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mearns Centre – McPherson Library</a> | Lower level, Room 025 | 4 - 6 pm</h3><p>C﻿urated by Mel Granley,<em> Shaping Relations, Tethered Together</em>, dives into UVic Legacy Art Gallery's permanent collection to explore ideas of togetherness and that which cultivates relationships. Each work examines a different facet of the relationships people form with one another, the world around us, and our relationships with ourselves. </p><h3>Join us for a curator tour and conversation with Michif artist <a href="https://raincabanaboucher.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rain Cabana-Boucher</a>. </h3><p>Complimentary refreshments  and light snacks. Free &amp; open to the public. Register in advance to receive free parking on campus. </p>

<h3>About Mel Granley</h3><p>Mel Granley is an emerging curator who has been living and working on lk&#x27;wungen territories since 2013. Mel is fourth-generation Ukrainian settler on their dad&#x27;s side, and Michif on their mom&#x27;s side, coming from Treaty 6 territories near amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton). They have been actively working in the arts since 2019, prior to that they attended the University of Victoria where they received a degree in Art History and Visual Studies. Mel is a curator, writer, and avid journaller who works to prioritize care and empathy in their work, and aims to bring Indigenous perspectives to the gallery space. </p>

<h3>About Rain Cabana-Boucher</h3><p>Rain Cabana-Boucher is a Michif/British settler interdisciplinary artist raised in Treaty 6 territory, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Her family has historic ties to the Michif communities of St. François Xavier and St. Boniface, Manitoba, and St. Louis, Saskatchewan. She currently lives and works on the stolen land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Səl̓ílwətaʔ and xwməθkwəy̓əm Nations. Cabana-Boucher explores the autobiographical in relation to place and politics, seeking to navigate the complexities of identity within environments that are rapidly changing under systematic pressures. </p><p>She is a recent recipient of the Takao Tanabe Prize for emerging British Columbia Painters, First Peoples’ Cultural Council Individual Artist Grant, and the BC Early Career Development Award.</p>
