The Bentway works to ignite the urban imagination, using the city as site, subject, and canvas. Anchored under Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway and guiding its complex future, The Bentway is a growing public space, and much more. It is a new type of civic organization: an independent charity and a not-for-profit, powered by vital partnerships with the City of Toronto, residents, supporters, artists, creatives, city-builders, and dreamers. The Bentway is a catalyst rooted in experimentation, demonstration, and regeneration; leading a creative movement to re-imagine the opportunities of urban spaces.Since Phase 1 of The Bentway – under the Gardiner from Strachan Ave to Fort York Blvd – opened in 2018, it has proven to be a vital public space, backyard park, cultural platform, connector for the western Waterfront corridor and a demonstration of what is possible. The Bentway

Gather around the fire for an evening of storytelling, knowledge sharing, and community warmth.

While all of the programming at The Bentway is open to the public and free to intend, this event is intended for individuals who self-identify as a newcomer. Earlier in the evening, we are offering a free newcomer skating lesson at The Bentway Skate Trail and we encourage you to make the most of your experience by attending both. You can register for the free newcomer skating lesson <a href="https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/472643016987" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a>.L﻿ocation: Meet at The Bentway Skate Trail near the Skate Rentals, where you’ll travel as a group to Fort York National Historic Site. This workshop takes place both outdoors at a firepit and indoors. Gather around the fire for an evening of storytelling, knowledge sharing, and community warmth. Guided by the <a href="https://talkingtreaties.ca/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Talking Treaties Collective</a>, this creative workshop invites newcomers to Tkaronto to learn first-hand knowledge of the history of this land and the people who cared for it, while also sharing their own stories and journey. This active workshop will happen around a warming firepit at Fort York National Historic Site, allowing for a deeper connection to nature and to each other.Dress warmly because this workshop takes place both outdoors and indoors. Warm drinks and light refreshments will be provided. What to Expect:<ul><li>A creative workshop, with an emphasis on storytelling and group activities</li><li>A portion of this workshop will take place outdoors.</li><li>There is approximately 10 minutes of walking to the firepit at Fort York. </li><li>Light refreshments will be offered to workshop participants. </li></ul>The Bentway is committed to supporting the full participation of all attendees.
