Agenda

Welcome and Performance by the Stardale Indigenous Drummers

"I strongly believe in women’s participation in society and that every woman should be given a chance." Meet Onyinye Odih, author and CIWA program manager, who is inspired by the many women that she has encountered who are juggling all the different aspects of their daily lives and still are able to give love regardless. Share laughs and tears with longtime resident Jennifer Bochero, a Columbian immigrant who has given back to the community that welcomed her through Multicultural Peer Mentorship for Professionals offered by Centre for Newcomers. Hear from Sheila Qayumi, Centre for Newcomers employee helping newcomers and a newcomer herself, having immigrated from Afghanistan just over a year ago. We also welcome Dr. Cora Voyageur, a fervent believer in the power of education, both in her own life and as a catalyst for supporting equitable change in society. Cora is a professor in the Sociology Department at the University of Calgary.

Break for Networking, Visit the Resource Fair, Meet Local Authors

“From Under Dog, to Student of ALL Things, my journey is in every minute starting, veering, tripping on itself, retreating, and any other motion an atom can do,” shares Jenny Burthwright, entrepreneur, owner of Jane Bond BBQ and Food Network, Fire Masters’ finalist. Looking to share their own unique stories, participants include Shelby Banera, at 24, a business owner, account manager at TD bank, and part of the women in enterprise WE banker segment Momentum. You will also hear from Movement51 and TD as they share how their services and programs support women by providing the tools, financial resources and connections to move their dreams forward. Moderated by Alison Springer, founder of Young Woman of Power, a nonprofit dedicated to transforming female culture in Canada. Alison works with diverse audiences ranging from street kids, student leadership, faith-based groups, Indigenous youth and adults, immigrant and corporate clients and you can expect to be entertained and inspired.
