NSCSW Member Consultation: Documentation guidelines proposal

NSCSW members are invited to provide feedback on draft guidelines for social work documentation.

<p>Social work documentation is a vital and integral component of professional, ethical, and competent practice in organizational, community and private settings. </p><p>Social work is a regulated profession with a high degree of legal and ethical accountability. Social workers must adhere to a Code of Ethics, legislative mandates, and organizational policies. Federal and provincial legislation has also been created and amended to address issues pertaining to personal health information and privacy. It is therefore imperative that social workers are familiar with best practice standards and legislative requirements impacting on all aspects of practice including documentation.</p><p>Members of the the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) have previously expressed to their College a desire for robust resources to guide their documentation/recording practices. The NSCSW's professional standards committee has therefore drafted a set of proposed guidelines for this area of practice that are grounded in the ethics and values of the social work profession. </p><h3><a href="https://nscsw.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/NSCSW-documentation-guidelines-draft-for-member-consultation.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">C﻿lick here to download the draft guidelines.</a></h3><p>NSCSW members are invited to review the proposed guidelines and join the discussion on February 1, 2023 to share their perspectives. Members who are unable to attend this consultation session may instead write to the Professional Practice &amp; Advocacy Consultant, N Siritsky, at <strong>nsiritsky@nscsw.org</strong> to offer their feedback and/or ask questions.</p><h2>Eligibility</h2><p>Must be a current member of NSCSW to attend; all active, associate, retired, and student members are welcome.</p><p>You'll need a device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and a reasonably reliable internet connection.</p><h2>Benefit of participation</h2><p>Members participating in this sessions may  include this time in their annual professional development inventory; please track it as <strong>volunteer hours</strong> (informal).
