Members of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers are required to complete annual professional development, which must include training or activities related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls for action.

<p>Please bring your lunch and join the <a href="https://nscsw.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nova Scotia College of Social Workers</a> (NSCSW) online for a virtual lunch &amp; learn exploring intergenerational trauma from a Mi'kmaw perspective.</p><p>This is the second session of a three-part series about practicing social work in Mi’kma’ki. </p><p>Mi’kma’ki is the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq, whose inherent rights were whose inherent rights were recognized in the Peace and Friendship Treaties that were signed from 1725 to 1779. This series of treaties did not surrender Indigenous land, resources or sovereignty to the British Empire, but instead established rules for an ongoing relationship between nations. The treaties were later reaffirmed by Canada in Section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982, and remain active to this day. </p><p>The NSCSW joins our members and our communities in the labour of reconciliation, and we are grateful to live and work together as treaty people in Mi’kma’ki.</p><h2>Presenter</h2><p><strong>Michelle LeBrun, MSW, PP</strong>, is a Mi’kmaw woman and jingle dress dancer from Piktu’k First Nation. She has a BBA from STFX, BSW &amp; MSW from Dalhousie, and is a PhD Education candidate at STFX.  </p><p>Michelle specializes in Indigenous counselling and provide supports and consultation services throughout Nova Scotia on decolonizing practices from a Mi’kmaw perspective.  Her doctoral research is centred on how Mi’kmaw culture, ceremony, language, and the Indigenous ways of knowing and being can inform social work practice, particularly in counselling and support services.</p><h2>Eligibility</h2><p>Must be a current member of the <a href="https://nscsw.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a>NSCSW to attend; all active, associate, retired, and student members are welcome. There is no other prerequisite for this session.</p><p>You'll need a device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and a reasonably reliable internet connection.</p><h2>Category</h2><p>Participating in this event may fulfil part of the mandated requirements for all social workers in Nova Scotia to complete annual <strong>training or activities related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations</strong>.
