Enhancing biodiversity through community co-stewardship of a city park in Ottawa

Hampton Park is a large wooded park in central Ottawa. The community group Friends of Hampton Park, along with other partners, implement stewardship activities such as decommissioning informal cycling trails, planting understory native plants on slopes to prevent erosion and removing invasive species to create room for native trees and plants to grow. For the past few years, the group has partnered with a local high school to grow native plants from seed to regenerate the forest understory and increase biodiversity in a meadow section of the park. Speaker Christine Earnshaw will speak about the community&#x27;s efforts to enhance biodiversity and engage the community to take action to support the park&#x27;s woods and ecosystem health.
