Members of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers are required to complete annual professional development, which must include training or activities related to preventing and managing vicarious trauma and secondary stress.

Join your ﻿colleagues over lunch for a discussion of Rest is Resistance by <a href="https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/tricia-hersey/rest-is-resistance/9781668611081/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tricia Hersey</a>. This book explores the liberating power of rest, daydreaming, and naps as a foundation for healing and justice.Hersey&#x27;s powerful, provocative and transformative manifesto seeks to celebrate the notion of rest in a culture that values productivity and busyness. The author invites the reader to consider the ways that this practice can serve as a form of resistance to a racist and colonizing world whose values are destroying us.<h2>Eligibility</h2>Must be a current member of the <a href="https://nscsw.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nova Scotia College of Social Workers </a>(NSCSW) <a href="https://nscsw.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a>to attend; all active, associate, retired associate, and student members are welcome. There is no other prerequisite for this session.You&#x27;ll need a computer or device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom (click here to test it out)</a>, and a reasonably reliable internet connection.<h2>Professional development tracking</h2>For members of NSCSW, participating in this event can partially fulfil the requirement for annual professional development training or activities that help prevent or manage <a href="https://nscsw.org/practice/professional-development-standards/#pdMandated" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">vicarious trauma and secondary stress</a>.
