Connect with young leaders, learn how to write letters to elected officials, and contribute to a published joint statement this Earth Day!

About the Workshop
Are you passionate about environmental justice? Do you want to see your work contribute to collective impact? Join us on Saturday April 22nd from 1-3PM (ET) for our first FLIP 3.0 event, an Earth Day letter writing workshop! You will not only learn how to write an impactful letter to your elected officials, but also contribute to a published joint-statement on what environmental leadership should look like. A collaboration between GreenPAC and Youth Climate Lab, the workshop is free and open to all – no prior experience necessary! You’ll have the opportunity to acquire critical tools and skills to engage in environmental advocacy through letter-writing at the individual AND collective level. Importantly, this workshop is not just about writing a letter – it’s also about creating a community of young leaders who are passionate about environmental justice and want to make a difference. Youth are inherently political and active in all sorts of ways. Through this workshop, you will connect with other like-minded young leaders and share your visions of environmental leadership. The workshop will begin with a keynote speech from Jonathan Pedneault (Deputy Leader of the Green Party). This will be followed by a group brainstorming session, where you will engage in a discussion about your concerns and ideas on how to strengthen environmental leadership in politics. GreenPAC and YCL facilitators will then provide guidance on how to structure and articulate these ideas in a clear and impactful way during the writing process. This will result in a ready-to-send individual letter to your MP as well as a joint letter to amplify impact on the collective level. Before the session ends, you will have the opportunity to network with your peers and connect on your shared goals in environmental advocacy. This workshop is the first of a series of events for this year’s Future Leaders in Politics (FLIP) 3.0. Stay tuned for more events and don’t miss the chance to engage with a community of young leaders and share your visions of environmental leadership through this letter-writing workshop! We hope you’ll join us in taking action for an environmentally just and sustainable future!

Keynote Speaker
Jonathan Pedneault, Deputy Leader of the Green PartyThe single son of a single mom, Jonathan was raised in poorer suburbs of Montreal. An early understanding of how privileged he was to be born Canadian impacted everything he later set about to do. For Jonathan, privilege comes with immense responsibilities. And he is one to take responsibility seriously. At age 17, Jonathan smuggled himself into Darfur in the back of a pick-up truck filled with rebels to document this deadly rights and environmental crisis for a CBC/Radio-Canada documentary. Over the next fifteen years, Jonathan worked to report on crises throughout the world and advocate for greater accountability and global social justice.Through his work, Jonathan interviewed fishermen in Somalia who had turned to piracy to fight off illegal fishing, documented sexual abuses by UN peacekeepers in the Central African Republic, witnessed failed revolutions in Egypt and Libya and documented excessive force by police in places as diverse as Chile, Belarus and the United States. With two years spent living on Svalbard, in the high arctic, and years reporting from places affected by extreme weather events such as the Sahel and Central Asia or with refugees leaving drought and hurricane affected Central America to face abuses at southern US borders, Jonathan has been in the belly of the climate beast. He knows what’s coming. And why we need to urgently get our act together.

Accessibility Information
The workshop will take place on Zoom and will utilize breakout rooms. If you have any accessibility needs or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out to us at info@greenpac.ca. We'll do our best to help!
