Reflecting on Land: Meaningful Land Acknowledgements

A community-based workshop that will support a deepening understanding of your relationship to the land and commitment to decolonization.

CDLI hosts regular <a href="https://communitydevelopmentlearninginitiative.ca/cdgatherings" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">community conversations</a> like Meet Ups for anyone interested in helping to build better communities to learn from one another. The first Community Workshop hosted by the <a href="https://communitydevelopmentlearninginitiative.ca/antiracism-and-decolonization" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Anti-Racist &amp; Decolonization Learning Action Team</a> will be focused on providing participants a reflective process to understand their relationship with the land.Leave encouraged to develop a meaningful land acknowledgement that is personable and effective. This first workshop will take part in a series that will deepen future learning on decolonization. <blockquote>“It is important to understand the longstanding history that has brought you to reside on the land, and to seek to understand your place within that history. Land acknowledgements do not exist in a past tense, or historical context: colonialism is a current ongoing process, and we need to build our mindfulness of our present participation.”</blockquote><blockquote>When we talk about land, land is part of who we are. It’s a mixture of our blood, our past, our current, and our future. We carry our ancestors in us, and they’re around us. As you all do.”</blockquote><blockquote>– Mary Lyons (Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe)</blockquote>---Note, this is a workshop designed in mind by and for settlers who are looking to deepen their understanding as they begin their decolonization journey.
