Together, we can make a positive impact on our environment and create a more sustainable future.The Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc.is a not – for – profit incorporation registered with theInformation Services Canada (ISC) Saskatchewan, under entity number 102084283.TheFriends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Area's goalsare to increase the safety and preservation of the afforestation areas as outlinedhere.As incorporated entities with an unique identity, Friends are governed by board members; and have customized organizational by-laws and letters patent.  Friends work locally with the City of Saskatoon park superintendent, MVA guidance, and other park liaisons as designated by the park superintendent. In Ontario, there are many, many Friends of the Park organizations, working together collaboratively to achieve mutually beneficial objectives.

Arbor Week 2023 Healthy Trees, Healthy PeopleHealth-care professionals are encouraged to formally prescribe time outdoors and issue national park passes to patients through the Parks Prescription (PaRx) program. Are you interested in learning more about the evidence behind spending time in nature and how it is beneficial for our health? Join us for the PaRx Nature Prescription Interactive Nature Walk, hosted by the partnership of Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) SK and The Friends of Saskatoon Afforestation Areas during Arbor Week 2023. This event is dedicated to promoting healthy trees and healthy people. Together we will fill our nature prescription for the week, learn about the health benefits of time spent outdoors, and immerse ourselves in the landscape of George Genereux Urban Regional Park through an interactive walk with Julia Adamson.Brooklyn Rawlyk, Co-Chair, Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE), SK Regional Chapter, is a third-year medical student at the University of Saskatchewan and co-lead for launching the PaRx program in Saskatchewan. She will be present to share her insights on the health benefits of time spent outdoors and the PaRx program. Brooklyn is passionate about integrating climate change and human health topics within medical school education and ways to make our healthcare system more sustainable. She can be found outdoors any chance she gets. Julia Adamson is an accomplished illustrator, historian, author and co-founder of the non-profit environmental charity Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. She has a deep passion for nature and the environment, and has worked tirelessly to protect and restore the rich natural, historic and cultural heritage of the afforestation areas. Julia&#x27;s engineering background has been invaluable in her work with the charity for the barrier installation, and she continues to write and illustrate for a variety of publications. She is a sought-after speaker and educator, sharing her knowledge and passion for the environment with audiences of all ages.This Arbor Week celebration is dedicated to honoring the importance of trees and their role in our health and well-being. We will have invigorating walks in one of our two beautiful afforestation areas, namely the 148 acre George Genereux Urban Regional Park, where we will appreciate the beauty of nature and learn about the significance of healthy trees for healthy people.Our walks will be guided by knowledgeable nature enthusiasts who will share their insights about the incredible benefits of trees to our environment, including their role in purifying the air, providing habitat for wildlife, conserving water, and improving mental and physical health. You&#x27;ll have the opportunity to observe diverse tree species, learn about their unique characteristics, and appreciate their beauty up close.Come honour local hero and athlete George Genereux as we celebrate his remarkable achievement in winning Canada&#x27;s only gold medal in 1952, and also recognizes his legacy as a traveling professor and pioneer in radiology in Saskatoon, embodying the values of excellence, determination, and respect that define both Olympism and the Olympic Values.Arbor Week is not only a celebration of trees, but also a time to foster community engagement and connection. You&#x27;ll have the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who share a passion for nature and environmental conservation.
