Free Family Art Event  at CICA Vancouver (4-6yo)

We acknowledge that CICA Vancouver is situated on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.CICA Vancouver is a non-profit multidisciplinary art organization established in 2021. We bring global ideas to Vancouver and local ideas to the world. Through exhibitions, panel talks, workshops, and special events, we provide a forum for everyone to step into the art and learn while having fun. We aim to enhance public engagement in the arts and bridge local and international artists for idea exchange, knowledge sharing, and collaboration.

CICA Vancouver

An inquiry based learning experience for families with children aged 4-6

The CICA Creative Learners program is an initiative led by the gallery to encourage families to explore contemporary visual art practices together. This program offers parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn and engage with their children. The Centre of International Contemporary Art will open its doors once a month for special events that will include access to internationally renowned exhibitions, a guided tour designed to create learning opportunities for visitors of all ages, hands-on art activities led by artists and educators, and customized worksheets and lessons for gallery and at-home learning and play.

W﻿hat to expect at this event: Join us for a 20-30 minute guided tour where you are encouraged to ask questions, make observations, and have fun. It's a great activity for families to learn and explore the gallery space together. After the tour, we'll have a guided art-making activity where we'll use our observations to create something unique. Basic art materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorites. You can also take home some activities and vocabulary sheets to help you continue your learning journey.

About the Artist: Jesse Mockrin was born in Maryland, USA, in 1983. She is a world renowned oil painter. Her art borrows images from Western art historical paintings and the stories which they tell. She repaints these images in her own hand and from her own voice. In this way Mockrin is not only a painter but also a story teller, sharing age old tales in a way that asks us as viewers to think about the ways in which those stories have been told in the past, who was telling them, and how we might tell those stories in the future. Her background in photography influences her creative practice. Mockrin crops her source paintings like a photographer choosing what to put in frame, shifting our perspectives both visually and figuratively.
