<h2>Welcome to the 7th annual Paddle the Slough Challenge </h2>Hosted by Watershed Watch Salmon Society and SOS Save Our SloughsFrom May 19 to June 18, get together with your family and friends for a unique adventure exploring the sloughs and waterways in Chilliwack. It's a great way to explore nature close to home... and you might be surprised at what you see along the way! While on your adventure, snap some pics or short videos of yourself and your group and send them to engagement@watershedwatch.ca for a chance to win some awesome prizes from local businesses including.... a $355 fly fishing rod from Pacific Rivers Outfitting Co, $300 of gifts cards from Mt Waddington Outdoors, a Patagonia backpack, a Valhalla Pure gift card, passes to the Chilliwack Fair and much more!!This event raises awareness and support for the need for restoration of the sloughs as these are important rearing and spawning habitat for BC wild salmon! Register for the challenge here on Eventbrite so we can email you safety updates on the waterways. <h3>2. <a href="https://watershedwatch.ca/resource/map-for-the-paddle-the-slough-challenge-2023/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DOWNLOAD MAPS</a> to start planning your paddle adventure. Be sure to <a href="https://www.adventuresmart.ca/water-safety/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">read up on water safety</a> and make sure your lifejackets are ready to go. </h3>3. <a href="https://watershedwatch.ca/blueways/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Send a thank you note</a> to the City of Chilliwack for their work on the Blueway Project. Our access to these waterways was made easier thanks to the City of Chilliwack’s Blueway Project. The City rarely gets positive feedback so this is a time to flood them with how happy we are when they support recreational paddlers and healthy waterways for salmon in the community! 4. Share the event with family and friends.5. Load up your canoe, kayak, dingy, or any flotation vessel and spend a fantastic day on the water! Please note: Many private properties back onto these waterways. Please be respectful of surrounding landowners! Stick to the water and the portage routes we highlight on our maps that will be sent to you shortly after registering. 6. Each time you complete a leg of the challenge, snap a fun picture or 3-5 second video of your group and send it to engagement@watershedwatch.ca for a chance to win awesome prizes from local businesses! For an extra entry, also post your pics on social media with the hashtag #2023paddletheslough7. While you wait for the prize announcements, sit back and marvel at the joy that was had by getting out and enjoying the beautiful nature Chilliwack has to offer. This tour will take place over 4 weeks, so you have plenty of time to pick your ideal paddle days and weather.
