Kitchener Public Library

Join us as we come together to celebrate the history of our black communities, our ongoing resilience and empowerment. Art from the Heart is about creating more collective and safer spaces for our communities to heal, move and play together. This documentary &#x27; &#x27;Driving While Black&quot; that will be shown in the theatre https://www.kpl.org/programs-and-events/event-listing/event?&amp;eventID=4301&amp;eventDateID=5111 on June 19th will complement the film, as we celebrate mobilization and celebration through the arts and art of movement. This documentary goes into the history of mobility for Black folks in the United States of America from the time of slavery into now. It addresses the inhumane subjugation of a people by controlling their mobility, throughout the country which may be a reflective way of exploring the impacts of systemic racism and oppression in Canada.This is an invitation for you and your family to come and explore the powerful and healing benefits of art and movement therapies on building mental health and resilience. Be prepared to be inspired and uplifted.This event will be at the Kitchener Public Library located at 85 Queen St N on S June 17th from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. Nicole Brown Faulknor registered Psychotherapist and Yoga instructor https://www.wounds2wings.com; https://www.teaocanada.com will be leading our movement therapy class with a focus on destigmatization (shame &amp; trauma) of the body through movement. A movement therapy class and gentle stretch for those needing some time to rest and play - in an unhurried and loving space to offer their bodies the space it deserves to explore healing itself, through this self-healing process.This community class may support work with intergenerational trauma that may be stored in the body and other forms of helplessness (trauma) that may be trapped in the nervous system through movement and stretching. &quot;Rest and Play&quot; may be just as fundamental and foundational to health as nourishment, hydration and movement. We must work with the emotion /desire of shame that covers our history/our bodies, in order to free our bodies through this trauma care &amp; collective movement practice.Alana Decker a local Artist in our community will be leading us in creating art that is healing that we can take pride in!
