Stories of Charles Sauriol's Don Valley

The objective of Lost River Walks is to encourage understanding of the city as a part of nature rather than apart from it, and to appreciate and cherish our  heritage. Lost River Walks aims to create an appreciation of the city’s  intimate connection to its water systems by tracing the courses of forgotten  streams, by learning about our natural and built heritage and by sharing this  information with others.

Meet at the s/e corner of Don Mills Road and Gateway Blvd

<h3>You are invited to join us in an exploration of the legacies of Charles Sauriol, through a linear walk in the Don Valley, starting and ending at different locations. </h3><h3>Charles was a tree planter, a bee keeper, a community gardener, a naturalist, a committed Franco-Ontarian, a historian and a prolific writer. </h3><h3>His life work led to the restoration and protection of many areas of the Don Valley, and ultimately the creation of the Toronto and Region Conservation Agency (TRCA), which continues to protect and manage watersheds in the Toronto region.</h3><h3>Meeting time and location: 2:00 pm from the Southeast corner of Don Mills Road and</h3><h3>Gateway Boulevard (the southernmost intersection, at 705 Don Mills Rd.). We will meet at the grassy area near that corner, beside the gas station, and will enter the Don Valley from there.</h3><h3>Travel to the meeting point: That intersection can be reached via the 25 Don Mills bus from Pape subway station or the 100 Flemingdon Park bus from Broadview station, or points north.</h3><h3>If arriving by car, there may be street parking on Gateway Blvd.</h3><h3>End: 73 Thorncliffe Park, about a 5-minute walk from multiple TTC bus options at Overlea Blvd.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Leaders: Floyd Ruskin (Lost Rivers) Christine Pilotte (Société) and Paul Overy from both groups.</h3><h3>Accessibility: Paved or Granular paths. There are long hills into and out of the Don Valley, and a few stairs along the way.</h3><h3>Washrooms: At the Shell station near the start point and at the end of the walk at East York Mall or in area restaurants.</h3><h3>Rest Stop: Along the way.</h3><h3>Languages: This entire walk will be led in both French and English, with groups by language. Please register for your choice of language (This is the english sign-up, there is another Eventbrite listing for those that prefer French)</h3><h3>Additional Information: If desired: a water bottle, a snack, a hat or umbrella, depending on the weather. Some may wish to bring binoculars and/or a small bag and gloves to pick up litter along the way.</h3><h3>Contact for information: Paul Overy via text message at 647-229-1191.</h3><p>Since the path is quite narrow in some places, we are limiting the numbers to 20</p><p>participants per group (English and French).
