After the inaugural Scythe Gathering in 2022 we will be Meeting InThe Meadow Again at Topsy Farm this year !Are you an experienced scyther or a scythe- curious newbie? Want to make hay while the sun shines? Join us, ORSN, FolkCamp and Topsy Farms on Amherst Island in Ontario to learn about scythes, scything and hay making the old-fashioned way.Although its a bit early, we will also be celebrating our various traditions of harvest time, including Lammas (loaf-mass -Anglo-saxon &quot;hlaf-mass&quot; ) or Lughnasadh (The assembly of the sun-god Lugh) in Gaelic Very Provisional Agenda:Friday 21st July Arrive Topsy Farm. Camp Set up and Evening MealSaturday 22nd July 6am-9am Scything In The Meadow -its going to be hot so to maximise scything time we need to get up early on Sat &amp; Sun! 9am-10:30am Breakfast10:30-12:00 Introduction to the scythe- history, use, blade types12:00-2:00 Lunch/ Siesta 2:00-4:00pm Sharpening and Peening 4-6 Craft activities for Lammas/Harvest Festival in Evening6:00 Dinner 7:00 Harvest Festival inc Music and Storytelling (BYO!!)Sunday 2 July6:00-9:00am Scything and Haymaking9:00-10:30 Breakfast 10:30- 12:00pm Haymaking Theory, Grass ID12-2 Lunch-Siesta 3:00pm Depart HomeOnce again we will be hosted by Jake and Rachel at <a href="https://www.topsyfarms.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Topsy Farms</a> . This busy sheep farm on the western tip of Amherst Island was started by a boatload of peace-loving free-thinking hippies in 1972. Their ongoing commitment to stewardship of the land, priority of harmony with nature over profit and building community is a perfect place to learn and practice the art and science of scything and to celebrate our connection to the land. HearthW﻿e will be camping in Jake and Rachel&#x27;s garden which they are kindly opening to us for the weekend. We will provide breakfast (oatmeal/pancakes) and dinner prepared in their kitchen or cooked outside on the firepit. Their will be materials to prepare your own lunch (bread, cheeses, meats, salads etc) please bring something to share.Water and washroom facilities are available.What To BringCamping gearS﻿cythe, s﻿harpening stones/peening jig, hay rake(if you have them)Musical instruments/ voice/ songs &amp; storiesN﻿B: This event is weather dependent.
