CURRENT and Vancouver Black Library present:﻿(A)LIVE - Bring Your Own Archive!For this year’s inaugural event, CURRENT, in partnership with Vancouver Black Library, invites participants to an evening of shared experiences and knowledge. Minoritized voices under increasingly threatening conditions have resorted to different forms of expression to communicate and pass on knowledge with various degrees of opacity. The body holds archives in the form of movement and dance; our hands communicate through art-making, writing and playing music; our voices narrate and sing the stories that were concealed and rewritten. For this evening, we will explore the tools left behind by our ancestors and create new ones. We kindly ask you to bring an archive to share (ie. memories, books, zines, body, videos, objects, etc) There will be a vinyl record player, AUX cord, projector, and microphone available.Date: Friday, July 21, 2023, 7-10pmLocation: 268 Keefer St #072, Vancouver. +++++++++++Vancouver Black Library is a Library run by Black organizers, dedicated to providing resources and workspace for Black and BIPOC community members. The space is a community hub for events like poetry and readings, performances and exhibitions. Ultimately, in addition to connecting people to information, libraries connect people to people..⁣x﻿CURRENT is an intersectional, multidisciplinary, music and electronic art initiative which began in 2017 as an annual multi-day event featuring artistic and educational programming for and by women, trans and non-binary people, and BIPOC artists. In 2019, CURRENT evolved into a mentorship program to nurture more BIPOC cultural producers in Vancouver and beyond.⁣+++++++++++Getting to VBL:We know it’s a bit of a maze getting here! Here’s some help: There is a doorperson who will let you into the building. If he is not there, please call the number listed on the door of Sun Wah (778 232-3593‬) and security will let you in remotely. Worst case scenario, DM us on Instagram @vanblacklibrary! Once in the building, go down the hall, to the left, and take the elevators down to LG. Turn right when you get out of the elevators. Press the VBL doorbell and someone will come to get you. Please note that it&#x27;s been a bit glitchy lately, so if no one comes over try again then try DMing us on Instagram. Once through the door, we will bring you down to the very end of the very labyrinthian hallway! Phew! Lobby has a ramp with handrail to reach the elevator.- Elevator access to each floor. - Specifications of BCA Sun Wah floors (Lower Ground, 3rd, 4th):- Washrooms are non gendered. Universal washroom on each floor.- Chairs in our flex spaces are without arms.- Assistance animals are welcome.- A number of studio tenants have dogs. You may encounter some furry friends in common areas and elevators.
