E﻿lyse LewisC﻿et événement est gratuit et ouvert à tou.te.sElyse Lewis est une artiste interdisciplinaire originaire de la Rive-Sud de Montréal. Faisant usage de la photographie et de l’écriture comme médiums principaux, elle crée des séries fondées sur ses expériences personnelles de vie afin d’explorer des conflits internes de natures philosophique et psychologique. D’un point de vue honnête et vulnérable, ses auto-documentaires révèlent des questionnements importants concernant la vie privée, la perception et l’interprétation.&quot;﻿Les épées&quot;“Illness is the answer every time we begin to doubt our right to our task.”

Les participant-e-s à l’atelier LES ÉPÉES seront invité-e-s à explorer le symbole de l’épée à travers la relation entre une image et un texte. Dans un premier temps, une trentaine de minutes sera dévouée à la prise de photos à l’aide des téléphones cellulaires personnels des participant-e-s. Les notions techniques abordées concerneront l’utilisation des ombres, de la lumière et du contraste afin de porter un regard nouveau sur des objets ou des lieux familiers ou banals. La notion d’autoportrait est encouragée, mais peut être vue de façon large et créative; il s’agit surtout d’un regard sur soi. Dans un deuxième temps, un autre trentaine de minutes sera accordée à la réalisation d’un texte qui explore plus en profondeur l’idée de l’épée : Quelle épée me transperce-t-elle ce soir? Nous avons tous-te-s nos démons, mais comment les combattons-nous? Ou sommes-nous fatigué e-s, et nous sommes-nous laissé-e-s abattre? Comment pouvons-nous utiliser la douleur comme véhicule de transformation, tandis que celle-ci ne représente pas nécessairement la transformation que nous attendons, que nous espérons? Comment pouvons-nous faire confiance à un futur incertain? Les questionnements associés au symbole de l’épée peuvent prendre une multitude de directions; les réponses et les créations exploratives des participant-e-s en seront donc aussi riches que leur individualité.

Through the use of photography and writing, she looks within experiences from her personal life to explore internal conflicts of philosophical and psychological nature. From an honest and vulnerable point of view, her self-documentaries reveal concerns regarding privacy, perception, and interpretation.&quot;Swords&quot;The SWORDS workshop invites participants to explore the symbol of the sword by constructing a relationship between an image and a text. The first thirty minutes will be dedicated to a photo-taking session with participants’ personal cellphones. Technical notions addressed will include the use of light, shadows, and overall contrast to shed new light on familiar or banal objects or locations. The idea of the self-portrait is encouraged, but can be explored largely and creatively as a gaze or inspection upon oneself. The second thirty minutes will be allocated to writing on this idea of the sword: Which sword pierces through me on this day? We all have our own demons, but how are we fighting them? Or are we tired and have we let ourselves become vanquished? How can we use our pain as a vehicle for transformation, all the while accepting that this transformation may not correspond to our hopes and expectations? How can we dedicate trust to an uncertain future? The questions associated with the symbol of the sword can take a plethora of directions; thus, the explorations and answers found by participants will be as plentiful as each individual.
