Community Arts Council of Vancouver organizes the Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival in partnership with the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. CACV’s mission is to support community arts in Vancouver, and we run various programs in support of that mission including working in schools and community spaces on reconciliation, an artist in residence partnership with John Howard Society, and bringing artists together in various ways to learn from and support each other at our new Gather series.For more information about the Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival, visit cacv.ca.

2023 Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival

Our festival showcases the work of artists who exist outside of mainstream artistic institutions, and we strive to provide a platform for these artists to share their unique perspectives and artistic visions with the community.

Wool+Water+Agitation=Magic! Join facilitator, <a href="https://www.feltalamain.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Chantal Cardinal</a>, to experience this MAGIC in the Felted Tile Workshop. This workshop is presented at the 7th annual <a href="https://www.voaf.ca" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival</a>, which showcases the work of visual artists and performers outside of mainstream art institutions. In this introduction to wet felting workshop, you will learn how to make a piece of felt that can be turned into whatever you like, for example: coasters, bookmarks, a mat,... or wall art!Felting tools and fibre supplies will be provided.

From wearable art to sound-absorbing wall hangings, exploring the textures and properties of wool and what it can be shaped into has become <a href="https://www.feltalamain.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Chantal Cardinal's</a> full-time obsession under FELT à la main with LOVE.After a career as a Fashion Designer and Costumer in the film industry, Chantal was introduced to wet felting techniques where she discovered the magical properties of binding fibres together. She is constantly amazed by the breathtaking ways in which wool can create a material that can be manipulated into endless possibilities of artifacts.Chantal also loves to share her passion through workshops in her studio, on location, online and in the community. Events showcasing her felting activities have included the BC Culture Days, Studio 101, CREATE, Harmony and Arts in the Garden Art Festivals.
