In honour of World Suicide Prevention Day (Sunday, September 10th, 2023), CMHA Hamilton is pleased to announce that we are hosting several community training opportunities’ in Fall 2023 including safeTALK, ASIST and MHFA. These opportunities were brought forth under our <a href="https://mentalhealthcommission.ca/roots-hope/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Roots of Hope</a> suicide prevention project, which is a collaboration between CMHA Hamilton and the Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton (SPCCH). As such, all trainings will be offered at-cost due to a generous donation from the SPCCH.Mental Health First Aid – In Person &quot;Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. The Mental Health Commission of Canada reports that one in every five Canadians experiences a mental health problem within a given year. While we often know a lot about physical illness, there tends to be less knowledge about mental health or substance use problems. This lack of understanding leads to fear and negative attitudes towards individuals living with these problems. It prevents people from seeking help for themselves and from providing appropriate support to people around them.&quot; (Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2023)Wednesday, November 1st, 2023 (9:00AM -4:00 PM) and Thursday, November 2nd (9:00AM -4:00 PM) – Please note that this is a certificate based training which means you much be fully present for the ensure duration of the training (both days). No exceptions will be made. Cost: $50.00 + Eventbrite Registration Fee (reduced fee as this training was sponsored by the <a href="https://spcch.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SPCCH</a> * If the training is full and you would like to be placed on the wait list, please contact the Jill Dennison(contact information below).
