About the ArtistAmanda PierceAmanda is an active published member of the International Encaustic Artists Association, a certified level 4 Powertex instructor and a member of the National Capital network of sculptors.A native of Saskatchewan, Canada,Amanda Piercespent her childhood summers exploring and playing outside in nature.  With no television or phones to distract, her imagination introduced her to the world of art and her inherent ability to capture nature on canvas was born.  In the early years, this skill influenced by artists such as:  Charlene Stauffer and Betty Warnock.Now residing in Ottawa, Canada, she has been mentored by phenomenal artists worldwide .  As an artist who thinks outside the box and believes we are all artists of the soul, Amanda has been honing and honoring her artistic gifts for over 20 years.   True to her Indigenous roots, Amanda derives her inspiration from nature.  Through encaustic and mixed mediums she captures the intensity, fluidity and texture of the natural world in her art.   This spontaneous medium where hot wax, resin and pigment meets wood panels, Amanda  intuitively manipulates color and texture to create luscious, magical works of art that allow the viewer to be lost in a meditative trance of infinite possibilities.AmandaPierceArt.comInstagramFacebook / Amanda PierceYouTube

<h3>Wabi-Sabi Encaustic mini workshop</h3><p>Imperfection is the basic principle of Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese philosophy of accepting your imperfections and making the most of life. You will play explore and dive into the world of discovery using encaustic wax as your medium. Encaustic is a perfect vehicle for artists wishing to explore this aesthetic. Imperfection is welcome. Play is promised and freedom and fun are guaranteed. Take home the principles learned and apply them to your art and your everyday life!</p><p>This 2 hour teaser workshop, will be held in the relaxing La Fab Art and Cultural Center in Chelsea Quebec 12 minutes from downtown Ottawa. This is a perfect opportunity for beginners to get a taste of encaustic painting.  In this fun and relaxing workshop you will take away several postcard size wood panels and learn the basic techniques to create an encaustic piece as little as 2 hours.</p><p>All supplies included!</p><p>F﻿un is guarneteed </p><p></p><h3>What Is Encaustic?</h3><p>Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in” Heat is used throughout the process, from melting the natural beeswax and dammar resin (crystallized tree sap). The medium can be used alone for its transparency or adhesive qualities or used pigmented. Pigments may be added to the medium. The medium is melted and applied with a brush or any tool the artist wishes to create from.
